Parent clubs determine the health testing/screening needed for their breed. When a dog<i><font color=\"#ae0404\">'s owner</font></i> submits the results <i><font color=\"#ae0404\">of the health testing/screening to CHIC, the dog </font></i>receives a CHIC number <i><font color=\"#ae0404\">and the results are entered into the OFA CHIC database.</font></i> Many breed clubs place a high esteem on a dog obtaining a CHIC number as it displays that the owner/breeder has complied with the health testing as required by the parent club at CHIC.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.ofa.org/recommended-tests?breed=WHT\" target=\"_blank\"><b><u style=\"background-color: rgb(255, 255, 0);\"><font size=\"4\">requirements</font></u></b></a>&nbsp;for a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier to obtain a CHIC number were established years ago by SCWTCA and are currently just screening for Hips (OFA or PennHip) and Eyes (CAER).</div><div>Because the SCWT CHIC program has not kept abreast of the advances in diagnostic and DNA testing/screening for diseases in the SCWT, the Health Education Committee is recommending that the testing/screening be brought into alignment with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https://scwtca.org/the-club/code-of-ethics/\" target=\"_blank\"><b><u style=\"background-color: rgb(255, 255, 0);\"><font size=\"4\">SCWTCA Code of Ethics</font></u></b></a>&nbsp;and that additional required/recommended testing/screening be added to the CHIC program for SCWTs to reflect current best practices in breeding.</div><div><br></div><div><u><b><font color=\"#800080\">Some important notes about CHIC</font></b></u></div><div><ol><li>Any changes to the CHIC requirements will not change the SCWTCA Code of Ethics Article 2 breeding requirements.</li><li>Neither the Club nor the COE requires a breeder have a CHIC number.
